Even though the outer layer of rubber on a good hydraulic hose is designed to take abrasion, I'm investigating getting further protection from abrasion and UV by using those fabric sleeves I see on modern equipment. I'd like to hear from those folks that use the sleeves, how are they performing and where is a good place to pick some sleeving up? Any feedback on this issue is welcome.

We use them at work on most hoses and they work/protect well. Gates hose distributers should have it for you.

Those sleeves work great and have eliminated hose wear and damage for us.

Good news. Where do you get them? How do you determine the size relative to the hose size? How do you finish the ends of the sleeves - just cauterize the cut nylon? Thanks for the input.

This is also a good use for those old garden hoses you have been meaning to get rid of, Cut to the length you need, slit it open, and wrap around the hydraulic hose. Secure it with zip ties.

Wire loom might also work.

An industrial hydraulics distributor that sells Aeroquip should have them.
