In the old shop, I found an IH Distributor for an "H" or "M" I think. Is there a difference in the horizontal and vertical distributors in the drive mechanism? This one has a drive hub on it but it is not a gear. More like a splined drive about one inch in diameter. Would this fit an "H"???
Thanks!

Horizontal distributor gear is a straight, fine tooth gear, where the vertical, is a slanted course gear, I am thinking the vertical distributors were Delco distributors and use a different set of points than the IH. Kinda looks like the points used in olivers, Molines etc etc,,, Should either have a tag with delco on it, or the IH casting number stamped in the side. Dont know if this helps,, dotn think they are interchangable, unless you change the gear. Chad

The vertical Distributer is Delco. But I don't think the gears are the same. I have a Delco on my M and it takes different points.I think Chad is right about the gears.

Thanks Chad! If this is true, that makes it more useful to me, as we might need a spare.

When it comes time to replace the points, don't tell the parts man that you need points for a delco on a Farmall, it will only confuse most of them. Instead, tell them you need points for either an Allis-Chalmers, or a Case.
