It was running great, It just died, I thought it might have been electrical, I replaced the switch and resistor, and it is showing good spark at the plug wires. I got to run, but very poorly, spit sputtered, coughed, and evened coughed out the intake a few times. Then it suddenly ran great for a few minutes, then back to spitting and sputtering. Dad said it sounded like fuel to him. I pulled the fuel line loose from the carb, plenty of fuel to there. I pecked on the carb while it was trying to run, no change. I took the carb off and cleaned everything. I got carb cleaner to blow through all the passages. I put it back together, and it still run poorly, then died. Now I can't even get it to start. Any suggestions? Jumped time? stuck valve or valves? busted manifold? trash in carb I missed? please help.

My problem was that the carb. float had a hole in it and let gas into the float. The carb. would flood and the tractor would run bad. After the tractor stopped gas would drip out of the carb.

Could be electrical, but it sounds like fuel to me. Your carb may need to be cleaned. By that I mean disassembled and soaked in carb cleaner for several hours, perhaps overnight, then blow out all passages with compressed air, then put a kit in it.

Had a similar problem with my neighbors Super C. Pull a couple of the plugs and make sure they are not fireing at the same time. The distributor cap can get carbon build up that will allow all the plugs to fire all the time. This burn up the fuel in the cylendars before it gets compressed. Also can cause back fire through carb. New cap got us going again.

Does it only do this when it is Hot or all the time? If the exaust manifold has a hole in the wrong place and the hot exaust is blowing toward the carburator or fuel line it will vapor lock and give the symtoms that you describe.
