Is there a substitution for the IH Hy-Tran Fluid for the rear axle housing for a cub? I"m told a SAE-80 will work. Will this also work in the Transmission and Touch Control?
Thanks

Jerry:

SAE 90wt gear lube is what is called for in the Owners Manual. Hy-Tran is a a Hydraulic Fluid which is used primarily in the Touch Control System and by some in the Transmission. Personally, Hy-Tran is only used in my TC Unit.

Whoever told you to use Hy-Tran in the rear end needs to re-read the Owner"s Manual. It is way to thin for any application like that.

If you cut and paste the url below into your browser, it will take you to the Cub Manual Server. You will find all the information that you need on your Cub there as well as links to other dedicated Cub information sources.

Hope this helps

Hy-Tran was called out in the later manuals for the transmission and final drives. That is where the "Tran" in Hy-Tran came from.

Jim:

Seeing as I don't have access to other later manuals, I didn't know that. I knew that it was used in the tranny later on, but not the final drives.

Would you use it?

I see no reason not to use it, unless you have leaky seals or gaskets. #90 might stay in a little better.

You should use gear oil in the gear boxes. 90wt
for the gear boxes and hytran for your hydraulic
touch control. Hal
