544 engine swap question

My 544 gas hydro started a bad miss while bushogging and sounds like a bad valve. Low compression on no.2 cylinder. This engine has never been a real power house and am wondering if the diesel is better or even if a six cylinder could be put in? this tractor is very similar to 656 except for the engine. Anyone have an engine to sell? Would a combine engine work?

The exhaust/intake manafold on these likes to warp, getter machined flat again, install with a new gasket and see it that don't fix it.

The problem with engine swaps is not the engine itself, but all the little piddly parts that you have to locate or manufacture to get it to work. That's assuming you have a good engine to swap in, and those are difficult to find.

A 6-cylinder engine is too long for the 544. You'd have to get a 656 hood and frame rails. At that point you'd be further ahead to junk the 544 and buy a 656.
