QDs? Or not to QD?

Which works better? To use QDs to run a loader or plumb in directly eliminating the restriction of a QD? My dump bucket has QDs and it seems to work strong, but the lift cylinders are hosed in w/o QDs and it doesnt work nearly as well.I'm thinking the restriction somewhat paces the fluid flow to a nice even amount and breaks up air bubbles. Is that even close?

Do what you want -- I agree with them being leak-prone. As for as restriction, I doubt if the restriction is long enough to cause a problem.

I was curious, because original U34 literature shows QDs on every hose coming off the junction block...obviously this was because the whole loader attachment was made to be quick on...quick off (only 4 bolts),but I was also curious if all these QDs negatively effected the performance.Looking in a 1/2" QD,the opening by the ball is rather small, and would seem to hamper flow, speed.Wondering if anyone else has QDs on their loader (U34 or not) and if the lift seems doggy.

Unless you are uncoupling those hoses frequently, I’d take out the QD’s.

Reason #1 My dad and my uncle both had M’s set up the same way with similar loaders on them. Dad took his loader off a couple times a year so had QD’s, my uncle never took his off and had direct flow. Uncle’s loader always worked faster than dads especially in the winter. We always figured it was the QD’s slowing down the fluid flow.

Reason #2 They are another potential for leaks to develop.

Quick disconnects are used quite extensively on fuel lines and in hydraulics too. They make it
very nice to shut off the flow of oil or fuel.
When the QD is of the proper size I don't think the hydraulic oil would be restricted and we never had that problem when they were used on fuel lines. RAW probably pinpointed the problem. Hal

I doubt that the QDs have anything to do with that. Most likely the difference insize of the cylinders. The lift cylinders will take a lot more oil, and these older tractors don't have the biggest volume hydr. pumps.
