To get at the oil pump on a Cub you would need to
pull the engine. This problem has appeared on here before with the Cub engine loosing its prime.

1. Remove the allen head screw at the back left side of engine block and add oil.
2. Remove oil filter cap and fill housing and
replace the top.

Just crank the engine over until you are showing oil pressure on your gauge. Once you have oil pressure indicated on your gauge it's probably safe to start the engine.

This problem occurs with the Cubs when the oil is changed too. The oil must somehow drains from the pump creating this problem. Hal

Go to the archives section in this forum and look for Cub oil pump. There are problems with this pump, the biggest being its location and loss of prime, Do not run the tractor with out Oil Pressure. Many ideas will be found in the archives. There is also a Cub forum with more specificinfo.

Sounds like one of those automotive Pre Luber tanks would be needed on a Cub.The type that pressurizes the system before initial startup (after a rebuild).
Glad a Ute doesnt suffer the same malady....

We use those pre-lubers on every engine prior to startup. We had an EMD engine that had its own prelube pump added on. If the engine wasn't use
in the past 24 hours you had open the drain cocks
on each cylinder and switch the prelube pump on for 15 minutes while we cranked the engine over with a ratchet. This engine was used in tug boats
and switcher locomotives made by GM. Only turn
900 rpm's and developed 1600 hp. Hal
PS: Sounds like those Cubs needed a check valve
on the oil pump to keep that oil from draining.
