Check out the pictures on this site. There is a lot of images here. Also, try the library for books on Farmalls. There are a number of good publications out too.

Jim,
Where in TX are you? If you are close by, I could drop by and tell you more than you may want to know.

F-12 and F-14 have straight rear axles and the F-20, F-30 and Regulars have a drop rear axle. The regular will have (generaly) open steering gears at the top of the steering pedistal. The F-20's fuel tank if viewd from the back will be somewhat square and an F-30's will be taller than it is wide.
F-12s (Straight rear axle)generally will have the stearing column straight across the top of the hood with a cast stearing wheel while an F-14,s stearing column will angle upward toward the operator. MOst F-14s have a composite steering wheel. These observations are assuming the tractor hasn't been modified.

Check out Tractor Photos to the left on this page and search each. A picture is worth a lot more than my rambleings.

According to Guy Fay's IH Tractor Data Book, The chassis and engine serial number prefix for F-20's is FA or TA.

BTW, a Farmall A prefix is FAA, both chassis & engine.

It may be none of the above. "FA" is the serial number prefix for Farmall A, AV, B, BN, C, Super A, Super AV, Super C.

Unfortunately, the engine serial number isn't enough. You need to describe the tractor, find some other numbers or post a picture of it.

Is the operator's platform offset to one side? Then it's not an F-anything. It's an A, B or any of the A or B variants I listed above.

Does it have a grille covering the radiator and front of the tractor? Definitely not an F-anything.

To avoid confusing anyone reading your post, the correct chassis serial prefixes for the tractors you list, in the order you have them are: FAA, FAAV, FAB, FABN (after serial 48350),FC, FAA, FAAV, FC. F12 and F14 are FS, F20 is FA, F30 is FB. The tractor in question likely is an F20.
