I have my "H" transmission cover off and have a few problems I need to fix up. I noticed there is quite a bit of play in the trans. driving shaft when I grab the gear and wiggle it. After finding worn bolts and rubber spacers in the drive shaft coupler, was wondering if that alone could cause that much wobble. Has anyone fixed up the coupler and found it tightened up the movement in the shaft?? I had no previous noise to indicate problems with the trans. main shaft pilot bearing, but if it was worn could it cause this much play?? Could someone tell me if I need to remove the trans. main shaft to change out the pilot bearing? I'm thinking about changing out the front and rear bearings on the shaft; I've got replace the oil seal anyway. Anyone been into this problem lately? Thanks.

I just went through a M rearend, it had the same problem as you described. my pilot bearing was bad and the bearing in the trans input housing, ( whatever it is called) also found alot of pieces in the bottom of the case.its not that much extra work to remove the sliding gear shaft if the front piece is out, the drive bolts are expensive from the dealer, but at least they are available. hope this helps
