I read with great interest the post about the speedy sleeve and new seal solution for a leaking hydraulic pump (my tractor is a 300). I would like to know more information about this sleeve as I have never heard of or seen one. How do you install it? How will I know if I need a sleeve as I do not have a caliper? Also, how do you get the gear off the shaft? Will I need a new gasket? Last but not least, does anybody happen to know the part number for the seal? If I have to buy a new pump, I can kiss my new brush hog good-by. Thanks in advance for your advice.

The speedi I installed came with a tube to press it on with. I just pressed it on using a vice, very slowly. You probably need a speedi if you can feel a ridge with your fingernail. All you need to find the right size speedi is your seal number. And, yes, replace that as well.

Earl,
I had a leak in my pump - 300U. Took it to my local tractor guru who used a speedy sleeve. Two years of low to moderate use - no leak. Good for a try before investing in a new pump.
Good luck

Take the gear to your local machine shop and have the gear pressed off and measured. As Joe suggested check a store that sells only bearings and seals. Here's the number for Chicago Rawhide
1-800-882-0008 they make seals and speedi sleeves.
These sleeves are easy to install if you can find one to fit your shaft. I've used them on damper pulleys that have groove worn into the damper by the old dry seal and this speedi sleeve gives a new surface for the new seal to stop oil leakage.

I know of no speedy sleeve for the Hdy.pump , if a factory seal will not hold then the bushing in the housing are toast and ya might as well get a new pump. Then go to you not so friedly banker and float a note for the hog. It's only money and ya can't take it with ya it only a way to keep score.

I have used speed sleeve in the past on a few engines. mainly on fords to fix the leaking rear main seal. I install it from the outside and then fit the factory recomended seal. all the ones I bought came with instructions.they are easy to use.I dont know what one you would need but your local bearing supply would be a good place to start
