Hi Bruce, That was Wayne Swenson's posting for checking that ignition system. Hal

Hi Bruce, You need to check for battery voltage
as Michael recommended on your former post. Check for voltage at the ignition switch some of those H's have fuses in the light switch. Look at Dave's posting today as he has Bob Melville's
wiring diagrams posted. You need to make sure you have 6 volts at the coil with the switch on.

Do you have any other equipment that you know runs that you can exchange the coil and/or condenser with?
I'm pretty sure that there should be continuity between the two little terminals on the coil, however even if there is it doesn't mean the coil is good. An old time garage or auto electrical shop should have a machine to test coil and condenser.

I would replace the condenser, then see if the tractor will start. Have you checked the rotor
for any residue? Clean the metal on the rotor that contacts the cap. Check for voltage at the coil with switch on if this is battery ignition.
Your switch could be the defective. Check for voltage at the switch then the coil. Hal

The only time my old H wouldnt start, all it needed was a point file run through the points very lightly, one time. Wouldn't fire a lick until then. ken

That was the problem with almost any engine that had points and a condenser that wouldn't start.
Even some with brand new points. I've even istalled new points and the engine ran worse and these were made by Standard which are very good points. They gave me a new set and that set was ok. I think they even made ignition parts for mags too. Hal

Hi Dave, If that fuse feeds voltage to the ignition it could be the problem. Thanks, Hal

I had that problem with my 1945 H.When I changed the points ,I didnt get the wire just right that connects to the points and it was grounding out on the inside of the magneter.I check my magneters by taking them off and putting them in a vise ,then I take a drill with a wire brush on it,set it to run counter clockwise ,put it to the back side of the magneter and spin it while holding the coil wire about a quarter inch off the side of the magneter case. You should get a blue spark if its good.Be careful not to hold the end of the wire in your hand.Good luck
