IH656D - Tranny Noise

I have been working through the kinks on my 68 IH656D. The tractor is running pretty well, but the tranny is noisy in 2nd and 3rd. The tractor has a TA (stuck in direct) and the five speed regular transmission. I would described the noise as a low rumble, not really a grinding but leaning that direction. Not something I like to hear in a tranny.

I intended to split the tractor after this season to fix the TA issue but am wondering if I need to do something sooner. 1st is pretty darn slow and 4th is awful fast..... any chance this is just an adjustment problem?

Thanks, Tip

Thats because the tractor spent most of its working life in those gears.

I know its a pain, but drop the oil and see if there are any metal fragments or (silver dust)
