Regular not running right..skipping and sputtering, Got fire and gas to all the cylendars but she just will not run smooth and has a skip in it . Now which plugs are the correct ones to run in this engine, I am currently running Champion W14 . Will running the Champion W18 help?? The mag is rebuilt and firing really well. Not sure on timing on this tractor though seem that it will idle better than at higher rpm's but neither is really good. Never heard another Regular run ,,,,,Is it supposed to run this ruough ??
Thanks for the help.

I order some spark plugs and wires from The Brillman Company. They are the only supplier that I know of that sells original looking wires. I'm very pleased with them and the price seemed right.

Your Regular should purr like a kitten if its set up right. Moisture in the fuel system will make it run like that. I don't care for Champion plugs, I run Autolite C77's in my regular.

Did whoever rebuilt your mag plane the roter disk. Sputtering is a common problem with Regulars and F20s that I think is caused by the distributer brushes jumping aroung on a rough disk. They Will run smooth. also retard your timing and see if that helps. Does it smooth out when under load?

I have worked with retarding the spark with limited results: runs better at idle with spark retared, but I have tried it everywhere with out a lot of help. NOW I may be onto a solution, the wires on the tractor are not new and the spark is showing on the plug wires all the way from the mag to the plugs, going to replace the wires and plugs and see if that was my problem. Have not been able to put it under a load yet, not running well enough to get it out of the shop !!!!! I will kept on until I get it fixed with you good folks help !!
Thanks Ossie

Well I fixed it !!!!! !!! Only had the wires run WRONG. OH yea the rotor turn clockwise so I wired it counter clockwise :)
Changed the wiring and she runs just fine .. of couse I need to adjust the worn out carb. Anyone know where you can get parts for a Regular carb an R 1 1/2 Model carb???

I am learning :)
