I always mounted mine on the bottom of the drawbar. Never had a plow manual but the mounting plates were worn on the plow in a way that indicated it was always mounted on the bottom. Also, for the wheel settings I used, had to be bolted to the outer most holes on the drawbar. only worked in those holes on the bottom, as springs or something interfered when mounting to the top.

I've always mounted mine on the top of the drawbar. Works well and easier to lift an align the holes.

It should be on the bottom.

The manual shows it on the bottom. I'm not sure it makes any real difference.

The old Yankee who bought my '48 SA new always mounted it on top of the drawbar. This seems to make sense, as having it rest there might give you a few seconds to notice -- before the beam fell and dug into the ground -- if the bolt ever loosened.
