I just inherited a Farmall H from my Dad's estate. We started it and it purred like a kitten - sounded great. We proceeded to drive it out of the barn. Person driving was not familiar with gear location and got it in High Road gear and it is now hung in that gear. Any suggestions aside from tearing into it to. Clutch is working fine and fluid levels look to be o.k.

Remove the pin that holds the stick in the trany. You may first have to remove the 2 small freeze plugs on either end of the pin. The pin will simply tap out. Next remove the stick and with a flashlight and a long screwdriver realign all rails to neutral. Replace stick shifter. The end of the stick has worn down and that is your problem. Get a new one or build the old one up.
This is a common problem with Farmall & AC's.

If the pin does not want to come out, push down on the shift lever. The pin may have a groove worn in it and you will need to relieve the spring pressure to get it out. There is no need to hammer very hard on it, most of them are loose once you get the spring pressure off.

The other method is to try to put the lever back into high gear. Feel around while pulling down and right with the lever and you may get it back in, if you do, hold the lever to the right to shift back to neutral.

Remove the pin from the stick shift down by the trans cover. Remove stick shift, and you should be able to reach down with a screw driver, and get it out of 5th gear. More than likely there is alot of wear, and you have the internal linkage in two gears at once.
