Hey guys. I received an email from Magman and he was inquiring about my H and if I got it running. I also want to thank NebraskaCowman for helping too.

I was able to get it to turn over on another one of my feeble attempts. I could again, let go of the starter button and it would keep trying to turn over but never fired. It seemed that it was doign it by itself this time and then would stop after 5 seconds or so. I'm serious when I say that if somebody wants to see the sights in DC for a couple of days and at the same time come help me to get this tractor running I would be greatful. Shoot me an email at tannerc22@yahoo.com if you want to plan a trip soon. Thanks.

Tanner, every time I read a posting from someone having trouble with their tractor, particularly an H Farmall, my fingers start itching because I would just love to get my hands on the stubborn beast and hopefully make a believer out of it. Unfortunately, you and I are about a half a continent apart, and I don't have any plans to be traveling your direction. I'm still thinking about the tractor though.

I believe the issue could be either a stickie starter button (if the button is the full amp heavy cable type), or a stickie jelled lube in a solenoid. The only way the starter can get current to turn is through the switch controling the flow. Both the starter button style, and the solenoid style are probably sealed units. If you are adventurous you could drill a hole in the cover plate and spray in some electrical part spray, let it rinse around and drain most of it out. Wait a few hours to evaporate the remainder then spray in a little silicon spray.

Replace if this doesn't fix it. If it does, seal the hole with a dab of blue silicon gasket sealer.

If your starter is drawing 800 or more amps, the tractor won't start (it has such low voltage that there is little spark) a starter draw gauge which is placed on a battery cable (without cutting into it) is available from most auto parts stores for less than $15 new brushes, bushings, and shaft size check should make it new.

If the wiring is origional type,I would replace the starter switch. Cheap fix about 10 bucks. ken
