I have a 1952 super C. I cant read on any electrical part what voltage it is. Checked the coil and I cannot find the info anywhere. Do I have a 6-volt or 12 volt system. Thanks

The firing order is 1-3-4-2 and No1 plug is near the radiator. The rotor turns CW so once you have rotor pointing to No1, the next plug wire should go to No3, then 4 and 2.
Does the tractor have battery in it now? If it does and it has 3 battery caps it's a 6 volt and if it has 6 caps it's 12 volt. Do you see a number on the generator? If it does, post it so we can check it out. Hal

How many cells are in the battery? If 3 it's a 6 volt system and if you have 6 cells it's 12 volt.
The Super C's were all 6 volt when new, some may have been converted to 12 volts. 12 volt batteries are easier to find too. Put a volt meter across the battery terminals to measure the voltage. Run engine at 1/2 throttle to 3/4. Hal

The tractor isnt running (yet). The battery that is in it is a 12 volt battery but Iam not sure that it is the correct one. I just inherited this tractor and Iam trying to get it running. I dont know much about it. I have just put in new wires, plugs and condenser. I also need a fireing order diagram because Iam not sure that the plugs are going to the right distributor wires.

I see it does have a 12 volt battery, post the model number off the generator or alternator.
Look for a resistor in the ignition circuit. This is used to drop the 12 volts to 6 for the ignition. If it has lights look at the bulbs to see what the voltage is. Hal

If it has a 12 volt battery then it probably has been converted to 12 volts already. Does it have an alternator on it? If it does, then its 12 volts for sure. I cannot remember the firing order on that 4 cylinder engine for the life of me, I remember 6 cylinder engines but not 4. The firing order is stamped on one side of the engine somewhere. #1 cylinder is the front of the engine. The dist. cap has #1 stamped on it by the # 1 tower, it may have the rest of the cylinders stamped on it too. Someone can correct me if Im wrong, but I think the distributor rotates counterclockwise, so you put the wires on the cap in the firing order going counterclockwise around the towers on the cap.

I thought the #1 cyl was closest to driver?? The firing order should be 1-3-4-2 but double check that on the casting on the block. And depending on what way you look at the distributor depends on what way it rotates. But I believe looking at the rotor cap it spins clockwise because it is the opposite way the crank spins. Someone correct me if I am grossely wrong. I am doing this from memory.

Curt,
I would have to disagree with you on the statement that if it has an alternator on it then it's a 12 volt. I had a 6 volt Super C and it had an alternator on it and I just purchased a 6 volt alternator and put oit on my 200 Farmall. I believe the alternator that I put on last month had 6V stamped on it. Otherwise I would look to see if the generator or regulator has 6V on it. If it was a full 12 volt conversion then it should have a balast resistor in line between the coil and the distributor and lights should have been converted over to 6 volt.

Good Luck!

I have never seen a 6 volt alternator before, not saying that there isnt any, I just never knew they existed. But yes, the best way to know is to see what voltage is stamped on the alternator or generator.

My wife bought me the 6V alternator as part of my christmas presents. She got it from JC Whitney for $79.00. She also got me a 12V for my 400 for $89.00. They both have been working great.
