I want to put power steering on an M with live hydraulics. I have a Behlon power steering unit that came off of a 400 and was wandering if anyone out there had tried mounting of of these on an M and how it worked out for them. I know it won't fit under the hood and I'll have to mount it above the gas tank. I was thinking of building a bracket to attach the Behlon unit to the steering post to resist the torque. Will the steering column post handle the torque from the power steering unit or is this a bad idea? All ideas and comments are welcome. Thanks.

I have an H with the behlen unit, it is mounted to the steering post. The others have said they like the char-lynn better, I don't know about that, I think the behlen works pretty darn good. You already have the behlen unit, use it.

I've seen the Behlen's mounted as you are talking about, but the Char-Lynn under the hood looks much better plus they steer easier than a Behlen. I have a 350 with the factory Behlen unit, and I used to own a Super MTA with a Char-Lynn, it was better than the Behlen hands down.

I have to agree with Redgreen Man, I have a Charlyn on my SMTA and it steers like a dream. It also fits under the hood like a glove. I have a Belen on my 400 and although it steers nice it's nothing like the Charlyn on the SMTA. The size of the Belen would not have fit under the hood on my SMTA but there's plenty of room under the hood of the 400. If I do my 300 then I will go with a Charlyn.
