I recently have purchased a Cub that had been partially restored by the former owners husband who had passed away. I am now having a problem starting the Cub and am looking for some advice on how to troubleshoot the electrical system.

What book or books should I get to for more information on troubleshooting the system? Specifically I am looking for testing points to identify what part is not working. All that I know currently is that it is a 6 volt system without a magneto.

I did replace the battery to make sure that it was not just a dead battery.

Any information would be helpful.

thank you all in advance.

Check the point gap, should be set at .020". Use
a piece of 400 grit emery cloth to clean the points. Have someone crank over the engine with
the ignition switch on while you hold No1 plug
away from the sparkplug to see if you have a good
hot spark. Be sure tractor is out of gear.
If you have spark, remove No1 plug and shoot some gas into the cylinder, then replace plug and see if engine fires. If it does you're not getting
gas, check for fuel at carburetor. Could be gummed up from old gas. Hal
