o12 flooding

Trying to get my recently bought o12 running after many years sitting. Have cleaned out the fuel system including carburetor, tank and fuel pump and have had the magneto serviced.

Got it running last night by pull starting it (cranking got me no where). Problem is it runs for about a minute and then stops by flooding its self (I think??) Another suspicion is the magneto not resetting ... when you turn it over with the crank it can occasionally not set and so it doesn’t trip; we found a gentle tap on the side of the mag would make it come right. The stopping of the mag might cause it to flood before the engine came to a stop? (Its hard to hear if the mag is resetting while the engine is running). Or, its in the carburetor? (I have tried blowing through the float valve with the carb off and it doesn’t leak)

QUESTION... Does the pipe coming up from the fuel pump, going to the carburetor also over flow into the fuel tank or is this just a mounting bracket for the pipe???

Tell me what you think??
Thanks C Clark

on your o12, your gas line from the tank goes down to fuel pump. then back up to tank tee, then to carb. the tee in the front of tank should be cleaned to prevent flooding. it is an overflow, since you have to pump the gas up. when it runs, look in tank. should have a nice flow back into tank. make sure your carb float is adjusted correctly. make sure there is oil in aircleaner or hand starting will be real tough as it wont draw gas to carb. also sounds like you might want to rebuild carb. is your float good? it might be filling up with gas and not shutting off carb. good needle and seat? these can be replaced. might want to rebuild mag also. have good plugs and wires? if you have timing, carb adjusted right, it will start by hand cranking 1 or 2 cranks. hope this helps. pg

look in your parts manual for the o12. it will show you the gas line hook up. pg

pg, I stand corrected on the fuel line plumbing. My F-12 is strictly a gas tractor and has only a line from the pump to the carb. What was the intention of the Tee up by the carb?

on the w12,o12,i12 fairway12, it has a tee in the front of the tank for the extra gas the fuel pump, pumps. otherwise the carb will flood. 2 sides of the tee are the same size as the gas line, the third is a touch smaller in size, it goes into the fuel tank. not sure, but thought an f12 might be the same. but i dont have an f12 parts book to look in. hope this helps. pg

They should be there regardless, his may have been pluggeed off but my 14 is a gas burner and it has the tee in it.Some say it makes for easier hot starting with it off.

It's hard to say what's going on here. Make sure the choke is off. On my F-12 the choke is off when it is pulled out, somewhat counter-intuitive. The mag wouldn't have anything to do with the engine flooding. Also the mag impulse coupling won't trip or click when the engine is running anyway. That's only for starting. By the way, you said it doesn't always click when you crank it- be careful because that's when it could kick the crank out of your hand and break some part of you or another. The casting up under the hood by the carb is, I THINK, for priming the carb with gas on a kerosene tractor, or something. It shouldn't have anything to do with fuel return to the tank. How do you know it's flooding? Black smoke? Are the plugs wet? Will it restart?
