Should I use a base coat clear coat or go with the enamel. Also where is a good place to get a new temp gauge for the Hyd. and engine temp. Thanks Shaggy

Enamels are, or should be obsolete. They will fade, and don't hold up that well to oils, greases
bird poop and tree sap. If you are building a museum piece it is ok. Otherwise go with the uerathanes. I DO use enamel on the parts of the tractor that were painted seperately and attached to the tractor after it was painted, like lights, shocks, seats, steering wheel, tool boxes. This allows me to hand work these items, and I believe the color match SHOULD be just a tad different than the rest of the tractor. Just that added little extra touch.

Don't follow what you said about hand-working the lights etc, etc. I too use acrylic urethane, after completely stripping the tractor of everything that will come off. I paint all parts separately with acrylic urethane, with the possible exception of some small parts that I use unhardened acrylic enamel on, simply because I don't want to mess with my supplied air system. Color matches perfectly (within the limits of the mixing ability of my paint supplier).

I have not used bc/cc, because I don't think it is necessary on a tractor, but I am certainly not opposed if someone wants to use it. Terminology: there is no such thing as bc/cc enamel (you did not say there was). Use acrylic enamel with or with out hardener. Do not use synthetic enamel, it is inferior compared to acrylic (fades faster). Or use the next step up from acrylic enamel, acrylic urethane. Acrylic urethane must have hardener, acrylic enamel can be used with or without. If you use hardener, you need a supplied air system, because a charcoal mask will not filter out the isocyanates in the hardener. Iso's can be deadly, and can make even a first time painter sick. Many places for gauges, OEM Tractor Parts has them, you might see if Justin Weber (IHparts.com) has any NOS ones.
