What are some easy ways to try and get this apart? Mine looks good, no rust, covered in dirty film, but it will not budge. I am sure it has not been off in years. Tried one of those strap wrenches after soaking with penetrant. Still nothing. Don't want to pull too hard and bend something. It is attached to a 43 H.

tyring to get the can of the bottom? I assume you have the clamp loose. try tapping wth hammer and screwdriver. it should drop right off.

Hi Mr. Cowman. Tried that too. No luck. Would warming the joint with propane bottle be too risky? I am wondering if there might be a condensation ring frozen in that joint, causing me to think unkind thoughts.

I'm going to guess that there is ice in it which is holding it together. If you can get the tractor inside where it is warm would be best, but if you can heat up the joint and the lower part of the pan this might help if indeed there is ice in it.
