A friend of mine has a 460 Diesel engine tractor I dont know anything about Farmalls so please forgive Anyhow he had the tractor running but had compression in the radiator We figured it was a blown head gasket so we pulled the head and found the block was cracked through the liner if I remember correctly (its been about 2 years)Well the tractor has been setting all this time He says I can have the tractor and do what I want to with it.Its got new rear tires the radiator has been redone and a new starter sheet metal looks good How much for a replacement block or running take out? What gas engines could I find and make fit?Or what about parting it out?

If it was me i would have the block bored and in stall a repair sleeve and bore the repair sleeve and install a new sleeve, i have done this many times and it has worked well if the machinest is any good .

Take it! There is a good possibility that the block can be salvaged by a good machine shop. They can pull the liner, over-bore the block and install a permanent sleeve. The permanent sleeve can then be bored to accept the liner, and you are good to go. You can do this or find another engine as others suggest.

Good luck!

By all means take a free tractor. I just bought one far worse off than that one for the injector pump and front tires (but the block is good). Started parting it out today.

That's a good friend that would give you that tractor no strings attached. Take it and do him a favor or two.

If you need a tractor and its a freebe it would be worth fixing.560,460 or maybe a combine gas motor from a salvage yard will fit in instead of the diesel.A good motor should be bought for around a 1000.

Grab it. Tons of cheap engines that will fit out there. Any of the IH six-cylinder glow plug diesels or any IH six cylinder gas engine will almost bolt in, if it is out of a tractor. About the only things specific to the 60 series are the front cover and plate and the rear plate. These same engines out of combines will work too, just might take a little more effort. The diesel models to look for are D-236 (which is what you have now), D-282, and D-301. The gassers are the C-221, C-263, C-291, and C-301.

I have a diesel 460. It was supposedly rebuilt , it started making hissing noise out the exhaust. Took valve cover off to adjust valves , and found that the rocker arms have all been welded. So I took the head head off , and found cracks in the head. So, I gave the project up, for heads are too expensive. What I"m getting at is, the block is good, ran good except for the above problem. No knocks very little blow by. Will sell complete engine for $300.00. You pay truck freight. If any help, email back.
