my cub was converted to a 12 volt system but the alternator just doesnot sit right. i have looked at building a new bracket to hold the alternator but i dont know if i should try to raise the unit higher to get it under hood or just lower to clear hood. i prefer to hide it but any thing is better than it is. my hood has been cut to allow room for the alternator to hang out i want it to look as close to orignal as possible to do so i need all sheetmetal in place and the emblems. right now it just wont work.. help.. thanks for all the help so far..

The Delco 10si will fit under the hood of the cub without any modifications to the hood. I did make two base brackets to get it right. The first one was close to correct and helped me make the second one correctly. The tensioning bracket is a bit tricky. Made 3 of those to get a good one, having a vertical milling machine to cut the adjustment slot helps. Some adjust the belt with a slotted base and the alternator is moved up and down for belt adjustment. Mine adjusts the regular way. Plan to use generator belt # 358 213 R1. The alternator pulley must match for width.

hawkins: I have not had any experience with the Cub, but on my Super A I had to overcome position problems to avoid cutting hood and still make it look decent. I achieved this by using a double pulley from a V8 Olds or Buick. Not saying this will work on Cub, but may be worth a look.

The other solution you see, with some Farmalls is using a smaller alternator. From some Japaneese cars, Toyota and Nissan for example. I guess it is a Hitashi alternator. Just some thoughts, someone will come along with exact solution.
