Guess it's the season - I'm a little nostalgic.
My dad kept a day book most of his life with a note or two on the day and every penny he spent for most of 60 years.
I recently located his book for 1935. I picked it up just now and see that on this day in 1935 he worked all day on a front mounted wood saw for his 9 month old F-12.
The F-12 was delivered on Mar 14th. $650 with cultivator. Rubber tires were put on June 1st.
I still have tractor and saw, but tractor was left out a long time.

I know thats a great feeling.I have my great grandfathers "expence" book.It has the dates and what was done on his F-14 that I now have.Kinda of sad though,I hated to drain the tranny oil knowing that he put it in there some 50 years ealier.

That is a valuable find. I've been trying to help my family keep in contact with their "roots" and I appreciate all such records and letters. I don't have a tractor receipt, but we do have one for a Ford car.

We bought a 6' wooden wheeled grain drill at an auction for $5.00 in the early 80's.

It had the dates and amounts planted penciled in the inside of the hopper lid. Even notes such as "War is over" in 1945.

I actually planted about 3 acres of oats/alfalfa with it in '83 or so.

My parents saved the lids, my mom writes a weekly coulmn for a rural paper and did an article entitled "Farm's history on lid of planter"

If I can get her permission I'd like to add the article to this site one day.

I think that would be very interesting to see.
My dad started his books in 1922 as a senior in HS project. I have most of them, although I haven't accurately inventoried them yet. I don't think I had seen the '35 book until my sister brought it over recently.
It's also the year he bought the first 80 acres of "the farm" and moved into the farm house which my son now lives in, so that was especially interesting.
I know he bought the D2 in '41, but I have to research and find out when he bought the H.
