The rear main seal on my M started leaking. My book says I must split the tractor to replace it. I remember my FIL pushing the rear seal up, over, and around the crank in my Pontiac when we overhauled it. Can this also be done on the M, or must I have to split it?

Ray you will have to remove the pan split the tractor remove the clutch flywheel remove the to halves of the seal remove the old felt seal from the aluminum holders and install the felt seal you will need new gaskets for the felt seal holders. Put some oil on the felt after you install the felt and reassemble.

Appreciate the response. I was afraid of that. I was still hoping someone had somehow aced it.
