hey bob, thanks for the info in the other posts about using the 1n4001 diode. i was going nuts and didnt want to use the light. but one more question. im sure you have seen the 1 wire adapter plugs that you use to make a 3 wire to a 1 wire, i know that these will cause battery drain when off, i tried one. but if i make my own with the diode and resister can i just take terminal 1 (with diode and resiter) and go straight to (bat)terminal along with terminal 2 (already on bat terminal)? would this cause my altenator to stay (pulled in) and probably cause the regulator to burnout? or would that make it a 1 wire that didnt cause battery drain.

i would run the ign straigt through swith then to battery.

and thanks again for the diode trick.

bryan

Run terminal #1 wire through the resistor or an idiot light to the side of the switch that is dead when the switch is off.

If you hook it to #2 and battery it won't be able to ever regulate the output of the alternator.

Bryan – If I understand your idea I don’t think it will work!! You still need to somehow shut off supply voltage to the #1 alternator terminal when you shut down.

Simply connecting the diode/resistor to the (hot) #2 terminal like you propose will result a small backflow of current into the regulator whenever the alternator is stopped. While it’s not likely to burn out the regulator, it will heat the resistor and will cause a dead battery if allowed to sit for more than a day or two!

Sorry!
