The t. a. on my 57 350 utility does not work. I have split the tractor and found that the t.a. clutch and pressure plate are rust frozen.I have removed them. Looking from the top, the planetary gears look good and the bearing and seals seem ok. Do I need to split the clutch housing from the transmission and check the t.a. unit from the other side? Will the replacement of the clutch assembly and bearing be enough? HELP

If I was that far into it, I'd tear it apart and replace the TA. Since your TA would have been stuck in direct, you probably don't know if the overrunning clutch (ramp and rollers) which drives the tractor in TA are good. Sounds like you know what you're doing, it should go pretty easy.

I split my 350 utility and found that the t.a. clutch was completely frozen. The t.a. never worked and when the tractor was put into a pull, it was difficult to get out of gear. I split the clutch case from the transmition case and have removed the t.a. unit. It look good????? i think?
How can I tell if it's ok? I hoped that the t.a. clutch was causing all my trouble, but I don't want to put it back together with a bad t.a. unit. HELP
