Do you need to add lead additives to gasoline for these old tractors?

Dwight: don't worry about it, you don't need it. I have two tractors and had another, haven't seen lead or an additive in 30 years. No real problems with these old engines that turn under 2,000 rpm.

Where lead is needed is high performance engines turning 3,000 to 5,000 rpm.

M's and H's most all had hard seats from the factory anyway so it is a moot point for them.

I think the low compression helps, I never use lead additive and never have a problem, and put lots of hours on letter series Farmalls.

Dwight,

The worst that could happen would be your valve seats would erode away in the head. I had a machinist tell me several years ago not to waste my money as he seldom saw problems that he could directly attribute to the removal of lead from the gas. Usually if the valve seats were shot it was from previous valve grinding not from lack of lubrication (which the lead was put in the gas for in the first place).

Just my 2 cents worth

No, you would just be throwing your money away.
