Had to replace the bearing and seal on the clutch shaft, need to know which way the bearing is suppose to face. Has one closed side and the other side is open, would make since that the open side of the bearing faced towards the transmission, but that is not the way it came off. Did someone install the bearing incorrectly?
Thanks..Keith

Been too long since I've had one apart so i can't remeber for sure, but I think you're right. When reassembling be sure to turn the seal retainer so it is furthest in. It can be installed either way, but if it's reversed the transmission shaft can move back and forth enough for the pto to disengae.

Thanks John. Went out and put the new bearing on with open side facing the transmission, slide the shaft back in. Luckly everything slid back together smoothly.Made sure the bearing was seated all the way in against back shoulder, as you mentioned.. Now all I have to do is see if I can find a front seal in my area if not will order one.
Again thanks.....Keith

Could not get to where you were talking about. I have a shop manual, but it does not show which way the input bearing faces.
Thanks...Keith
