I took the tag of my H when I painted it, now I don't know where to get new rivets to put it back on. Where can I get some rivets.

It just doesn't seem to matter much if you were to consider the big picture, all the things that go on in this world. I can't get too excited about it.

I've seen these before, with high starting bids and have never seen one sell. Like some of the things I list ("maybe somebody is collecting these") But then they sell poorly and i don't list no more. Selling on eBay is like fishing.

If you look on the guy's other items, he has a whole bunch of tags listed. One of them, off a John Deere, had a bid on it. I have a tag off one of our ranch's F-20's hanging on my wall, but that has family history behind it. Can't see just buying a tag out of the blue, but to each their own... I've always had trouble throwing ANYTHING away, because my theory is that no matter what it is, somebody somewhere collects them....;)

My wife tells me my collecting is a DISEASE!

(I don't believe I'll ever bother to collect another WIFE, though!)

If the tag is, as he says, off a tractor he's parted out, where do you see a problem? (Assuming the tractor was legally his.) Would you feel better if it went to China in a boatload of scrapiron?

Even if the tag were to be displayed on a tractor missing it's original tag, there's no fraud being comitted unless someone tries to sell the tractor on the basis of that being the original tag, and representing it as something that it's not.

Of course, I'm against using removed tags for illegal or fraudulent purposes, ot stealing tags off of someone else's tractor, but I have also seen attractive displays made from old tags.

If he's doing as he says, I think he is saving a piece of history, rather than doing a despicable act!

Let's face it, there are THOUSANDS of pieces of old equipment being scrapped out legally, and if the tag is attached to a part that is not in high demand, the part is going to eventually wind up as scrap, and the tag with it, unless someone saves it!

Ok Ok This is what i am thinking. This guy does this and you say its legal and all but he is asking a pretty good price in my book. NOW If he sells this or others and gets his price what to stop some of the shadyier people out there from seing this and saying wow easy money and the next thing you know your H is missing its tag. For example Mags are going for outragious prices right now on ebay for just basic ones that need work . And then this guy has to buy one of mine and says his was stolen off his tractor in his yard. Do you see what I am thinking here. The one he bought from me had everything new and was worth alot more than he paid but I wished I could have done more for him. JON

Yeah, but you can say the same about pretty much any money-making activity, or any activity for that manner. Someone will always find a way to ruin pretty much any activity for everyone else. To simply stick your head in the sand and not do anything is the only solution.

Looks like typical Ebay stuff that some uninformed person might want. Main thing wrong with the H tag is that the engine and chassis serials match on the H, and that tag makes the engine serial different than the chassis serial. If the tag is correctly installed, then another owner will assume the engine has been changed, but it's not a major disaster. It's not as bad as if someone guesses the serial and has a repro tag made, then there could be two tractors with the same serial. Tractor owners need to record their serial numbers anyway--might help in case of theft of the tag or tractor. I would rather get the correct repro tag. I think you are overreacting, but then I don't use Ebay.

Mag man - would this fit my 48 h or would I have to modify it to match?? How do I change the engine serial number to match this tag? That would make mine a 42 H right???

If you change serial number tag restamp engine number and change out all major castings on tractor for ones with correct casting codes you could probaly pass it off for 1942.

OEM tractor parts makes a real nice repro tag that they will stamp with your serial #. They come with a rivet kit and all for $40 I would get one of those.

I have bought 2 from OEM, not particularly happy with the 2nd, paint was scratched and the holes were off slightly -- going to another supplier next time.
