Do you have to take the belly pump out to split the tractor, am putting in a new clutch and resurfacing fly wheel. have all the bolts out, and supported good, have a 2.5" gap between engine and clutch housing just cant get it to pull all the way apart, and i not trying hard enough?

Why are you splitting it to replace the clutch?

Don't know if that is the problem, but I use some 3/4 inch bolts, long with head cut off as alignment pegs to disassemble or reassemble tractor. Put them in torque tube housing.

It's probably not coming out straight, that'd be my take. Alignment is off.

The last M I split had a chunk of broken starter nose behind the flywheel and sticking out into the housing. All the further it would come apart was about an inch. I had to pull off the side frame and cut a chunk out of the engine backing plate. I"ve split a lot of M"s and pulled a lot of M motors. This one was the worst ever.

I'm betting the input shaft on the transmission is binding in the clutch spline.try lowering or raising the torque tube.If your out 21/2 in your an inch from home

The housing that the belly pump lives in.

I am going out on a limb here I can take them apart but cant remember how I did it afterwards and I have been wrong twice this week comparing Hs and Ms. But it seems you would have to take the pump out to unhook the universial joint on the shaft so you can seperate it. Maybe wrong though. JON

Magman, don't get down on yourself so bad, one of these days I will have some questions about magnetos. In fact, I have a question right now. Right here in front of me I have a box that says Genuine Fairbanks Morse renewal parts, on the end of the box is the number B2437A. Also, 10422437. What can you tell me about this? The box does have contact points in it.

You do not need to drop the belly pump. Look it all over very good, I can't imagine what might be stopping it.

The pump does not have to be removed. I split a "43 H as a first-timer 3 years ago. Mine came out just fine, If yours has clutch/flywheel issues, they might be causing it to bind on the spline. Keep trying and it"ll come.
