504 STUCK IN GEAR

What can I do to unstick my 504 row crop. It is stuck in gear and have trouble moving the gear shift. HELP

This is a very common problem with an easy fix. The end of your gearshift lever is worn to the point where it can slip out of the shift fork it is moving before the fork gets back to nuetral. Remove the shift lever. Look down in there, and you'll see the three shift forks. They each have a notch cut into them where the shift lever engages them. When the tractor is in neutral, all three of these notches should be centered with eachother. You will have one that is not, use a large screwdriver or prybar to line it up with the other two. Weld up the end of your shift lever and grind it back down to a size and shape that fits the notches in the shift forks nice. If you just put the shift lever back on there the way it is and keep running the tractor, there's a very good chance you'll get into two gears at once, pop the clutch, and then you'll need a complete transmission rebuild. Now would be a good time to check your TA linkage adjustments. If your TA clutch is not disengaging when the main clutch pedal is depressed, it will make the transimission harder to get out of gear, and that increased effort will only make the shift lever more likely to slip out of the fork.
