I took the pump apart, Everything is tight, no wobble or play in the drive shaft , gears have the proper clearance. But, the gears have a small mark on the cap. I want to know how to get the proper clearance after the cap is surface ground at a machine shop ? Do you add more shims or leave the shims out ? Thanks

Service manual says 'Gaskets between the body and covers are .006 inches thick; use these as shims to obtain .003 to .005-inch end play of the drive shaft when assembled.'

New service manuals are available from binderbooks(dot)com.
