John: Surprising how many missed the fact you said letter series. They did however raise a point I hadn't thought of, that being all the letter series tractors bought during the war and had to take them on steel. My dad had a W4, bought new in 42, had to take it with rear steel, bought rims but no tires until 1946. Seeing as how I was born in 42 I really never got to drive the W4 on steel. It was however the first tractor I ever drove, pulling a wagon and loose hayloader. That was roaring excitement at best to the average 7-8 year old, stay on the windrow, don't let that clutch out too quick, swing wide on turns so as to keep loader on windrow, etc., were the commands. As I recall, I replaced grand dad as of the clutch issue. Dad was afraid the hired hand on load was going to throw pitch fork at him. I accepted the job under some degree of presure. Keep the hired hand on his feet and don't miss any hay. That worked so well I was given a pitch fork and told to join the hired hand building the load and my kid brother got the W4 seat. All this in the name of going faster and loading more hay per hour.

when I was 6 years old we ran a WD9 Internatonal tractor and I tried to drive it. had big platform and high fenders to keep me from falling off when I had to stand up to make the turns and when I pushed in on the clutch it took all I had. Wish I still had it I would put a turbo on it.

I have to agree with Big John's opinion. The A&B series will just about break your brass, uh, unmentionables.
But one of the most comfortable is the 706/756 crew...

I'll vote for my 300 Utillity with no power steering and a very heavy front end loader.

Any of the pre-4/504 and 7/806 Farmall and IH's are terrible comfort wise. I like the power of the old Farmalls, but comfort wise I much rather have a '20 or '30 series Two Cylinder with that awesome seat..... ..... .when it good shape you darn near float on them!

I agree with everyone but I'm sure they will agree a row crop anything h,m or anyhting like that gives me the shivers when it comes to working plowed ground when those front tires drop into a dead furrow the steering wheel becomes lethal! especially when it has a spinner knob, I've still got a knot on my thumb and that happened 40 some years ago and I'm sure there are many fellas out there with the same experience. When it comes to working ground I'll take a W series anytime.

A regular on steel gets my vote.
A hard ride and then there is that hard turning open steering gear.

A regular on steel with the "Thumb Buster" steering gets my vote, too!

Cub. I borrowed a Cub Lo-Boy( Excelent shape one!) to mow my lawn while I was working on my 154 Cub Lo-Boy. Maybe it was an extra extention put on to move the seat even further back than the factory adjustment or squeezing around the steering wheel. I was a wreck when I got off. My 154 is soooo much more operater friendly.

Roughest I ever rode was a 240 utility. I don't know if they came out that way but ours had the seat bolted directly to the castings - absolutely no spring and about a 1/2 inch of pad.

The absolute worst is an F14 on full steel. I brush hogged with one in some wet areas and that nite was an awful one trying to sleep. I had a lot of back pain.

I can agree on this one but would add anything on steel isn't much different.

YES,YES,YES!I have a 39 F14 that was, note i said was on steel, with the big "hard ground" spike lugs.Even in soft dirt it would wrnch my back a few turns. Finally bit the bullet and found a set of rubber hubs and rims, paid 300 for all 4,then I got thge bill on the tires from Miller,1600 with the tubes and shipping, but my back sure is alot happier.

Takes 4 to 5 hrs. on the A to get all the grass mowed around here and I can hardly crawl off of it and walk when I`m done , I`d hate to think about spending a long day bouncing through a field on it !!

I agree with your picks. I don't like the way you have to sit on the A. My M is way more comfortable to drive. Even though they aren't Farmalls, I also nominate the W-9 and WD9 too.

I drove a Super A and a BN on the HTA tractor ride's and I will say they are not the smoothest thing's to ride on the Canal but if you take out the seat spring stops they are not to bad.

Holding in the foot clutch on the 560 standard in high TA for any period of time really built the muscles in your left leg. I can't think the W9 would be any treat either. If you had a rather small operator I sure wouldn't want to be behind him to hook up the wagon! Glenn

John: You got my vote, never drove a B but it cant smooth things out any better than the A. I must admit I've found C and SC not much better. While they had much the same seat as later H and M, steering wheel location tended to be hard on the back.

I"d say for sure it"s my Dads" Farmall A. Without a seat pad my rear hurts like heck after a few hours in the field
