Not starting after it gets hot

Hello-

After my BN has been running long enough to get throughly hot (doing hard work), it won't start. I literally have to just walk away and come back an hour later. But when the engine is cold, it starts up on the first crank.

What could be causing this?

Thanks.

Does the motor crank over when hot? If so take a look at the ignition. Do you have spark? If not my guess would be the coil on either the magneto or battery ignition systems.

Cranks fine, but doesn't start. Next time I'll check for a spark off the mag.

If the ignition proves out, warm it up and adjust the idle down low using the throttle stop screw. Then adjust the low speed mixture screw. Turn it all the way in and then 1 turn out off seat. Idling slowly adjust the screw for best running. If it speeds up, idle it back down at the throttle stop screw. This is an air screw so turning it in will make the mix richer.
If it does not respond to this adjustment the carb is probably dirty or the needle or seat may be damaged. You may also have a slight manifold leak or carb gasket leak when hot or worn carb throttle plate shaft. You may also have your valve lash set too tight. Make sure you have the correct hot valve lash clearance. I'll leave it at that for now.
