Looks like my post didn't make it the first time. At least I hope this isn't a duplicate.

I thought it might be better/easier on the implements to not to place down force on the
bush hog or snow blade on the 300U. I'm using
the 3-point adapter prongs in the Fast Hitch sockets.

The operators manual says to turn the control on the valve from 'D' to 'S' to achieve no down-force. I did so.

I had assumed that this would cause the implement to come down by gravity when I pushed the lever towards 'down.' However, it doesn't come down at all.

Did I miss something?

Do I need to disconnect a hose?

Am I wrong in believing it's better to skip the down-force and let the bush-hog 'float' a bit when the back wheels go into a low spot?

I just don't use the top link, let the mower follow the ground. Some times I use a small chain for the top link then it can float and still pick it up

The pin for floating your Fast Hitch is "E" in Figure 23 of the Operators Manual (good copies available from Binder Books (.com), if you don't already have one). It's the pin located closest to where the moving end of the cylinder attaches to the hitch.

The posts about the check valve are correct - without it, the hitch won't hold up a load for any period of time because the control valve are not positive shut off on the 300U.

gwb, all two point hitches have a check valve between the valve and cylinder to keep it from leaking down. This check valve opens only when hydraulic down pressure is applied. By changine your valve to one way you eliminated the hydraulic down pressure to open it.

Try pulling up(or back) on the control lever. If the hoses are hooked up proper, down direction should cause the cylinder to extend, or lift. The following is a direct quote from an original 300u operators manual, page 20--" The cylinder piston rod should extend when handles are moved forward and retract when handles are moved back. It will operate in the reverse manner if the hoses are reversed." I found this info out the hard way, found the manual later on. D Sellers

Hi as Aces said there is a pin to pull to allow the fast hitch to float.
If my memory is correct, stand at the rear of the tractor and underneath at the top of the left lift arm should be a pin with a loop handle on it. Pull this pin and it will let the lift arms float. Leave your hydraulic control valve in the "D" position. The "S" and "D" positions were only used for remotes. "S" being for single acting cylnders with only one hydraulic hose and "D" for double acting cylinders with two hydraulic hoses.

Good luck

GWB You coudl have truned the valve a little to far or not enough should be a roll bin and a stop clip on the valve cover plate for D or S. but the fast hitch should a bin to pull to let it float.
