Got the next rebuilt carb put on this eve.
Tractor runs great. Bout time!!!

Now that its running good I figured I'd check out the rest.
STeering is nice and tight no shimmy.
PS works great.
Hooked the round baler to it.
PTO works good
Hydralics work good nice and fast.
Clutch works good, Brakes are adequate.

Now I did notice that when I pulled the hydralic lines off the baler. The fluid was kinda milky. Must be water in there.
I think I heard Hugh say some thing about 460's and 560's being good for this.
Whats the best way to get that cleaned out?

I think this is going to be a good tractor, esp after I put a paint job on her.

Kelly: I notice you are getting some advice on less expensive hydraulic oils. Be careful on that one especially with the 460-560 series. Those tractors are not very tolerant if specs are off even just a bit.

Just a bit on my experience. I used to buy my fuels and lubs from Esso as their dealer was a friend. For years I used Hydraul 50. One day I went to dealer for a pail of Hydraul 50. He said we have in a new improved version Hydraul 56. Turns out he was wrong 56 was an addition to the line, not a replacment. Hydraul 56 worked in Farmalls 130, SA, 300 and 1066. But it would not work in 560 and 656. The 56 oil is just a shade heavier viscosity and does not flow well enough through that filter system, thus starves pump for oil. That lesson was a two pump lesson,

H ave heard of draining, filling with diesel fluid, running up the lane & draining for a cheaper flush of the system.

Have heard this with the older letter series.
Not sure if thats a good idea with the hydralics running off the tranny fluid though.

How can diesel be worse than water. I'd put 6 gallon of hytran and 6 diesel for a quick flush and out of there.

True enough.
I was also thinking how to flush out the hydralic system. Iam sure there is water/ oil all in the lines.
I suppose I also contaminated the hydralic system on my baler when it pushed that slurry up into the cylinders

Kelly . We can get a 5 Gallon Pail of Hy-Tran up here in New Hampshire at Sams Club for $18.00. I made the mistake of going to the NAPA and getting my first 5 Gallon Pail , and then the Farmer up the street smartened me up a bit . Also . a nice fix for the Shifter Shaft letting water into the gear box we use up here is to get a 16 Ounce Plastic bottle of your favorite Soft drink , cut it about 3" down from the top , clean cut right across the bottle . Then take shifter Knob off and slide down . Seal it with some Silicone , and it WILL Not leak . I painted mine RED before I put it on my 560, and it looks like OEM part . Hope this helps . Enjoy your 460 they are loads of fun .

Kelly: 460 and 560 are bad for this because they were the first Farmalls to go to the transmission for the hydraulic resovoir. Problem is the didn't improve the place where most of the moisture gets in, around that gear shift lever.

I did my 560 once and let it drain and even drip out for two days. Have the filter out and open every port when doing this. Then fill it with new hytran and new filter. I only replaced the oil once but changed filter almost weekly for about two months during busy season. Another item I did was cut a small hole in a piece of inner tube, put some glue around it and pulled it down the shift lever to just above the spring. Make that piece of inner tube large enough so it creates an umbrella effect over the shift lever base. This sheds any water hitting directly on shift lever during rain.

Of course you also have condensation but I think operating tractor in hot weather and evaporation will take care of that.

Drain all the oil out of the hydraulic system, let it drain for a night, get new oil and filter and flush it out for a few hrs and then change the oil and filter again. Thats what we did for an AC, it took a few times changing the oil before we got it all cleared up.

I was afraid you'd say that. I think that thing has 13 gal + hytran in there. That should be about 100 bucks a fill.
