I've tried to adjust the linkage, but that doesn't help the situtation any it still jumps back out. Low gear works fine, and shifting into reverse is fine. the tractor is a 806 gas manual trans 4h/4l.

The problem is under the shift plate that is located infront of the seat under your platform. There is a shifting plate that is worn. Very common with the '06 series. Not to difficult to get at. Be sure to replace the plate as well as the rollers under it that ride in the groves, and the bushings on the forks when you have it apart. While you are in there it doesn't hurt to check the shift collars to see how worn they are as well. I have done this job many times and it will go back togther easier if you note the position of the plate and forks during disassembly. Itr takes a little jockeying but it should fall in place easily. Good Luck
