I am looking for some input on rebuild for the touch control. I have the manual GSS-1024, which gives an exploded view of the hydraulics. First question, after changing all the o-rings will the actuator valves find their own position after reasembly? 2. Wondering what you guys use for sealing the piston head cover? 3.Anything special I should look out for. I just ordered the rebuild kit today, $87 plus tax and shipping. The screen was plugged solid with crud and the oil smelled pretty burnt. Thanks

I usually use sealer on all gaskets, but I didn't use anything on the reservoir for fear of getting some glop where it doesn't belong in the hydraulics. If you do use sealer, use a brush, and only apply a small amount so that it doesn't squeeze out into the reservoir, mine does not leak. As Hugh says, instructions come with the kit. You don't have to do any thing to the actuators, just make sure the control rods (on the reservoir are adjusted correctly. If you don't move them during disassembly, they should be ok -- I didn't mess with mine. The adjustment procedure in the manual is too long to print here. I believe that as long as the pump stops when you stop moving the touch control levers, you are ok. You are supposed to use a pressure gauge, however.

scotty: When your kit arrives it will contain an excellent set of instructions for the task at hand. I have never done one of these, so you will be able to advise whether this task should be tackled by a cranky old codger that just stopped smoking.

I understand from others cleanliness it the key, can't be too particular on that item. That burnt smell you speak of, have you checked out pump.

On the smoking, boss asked me on Wed. how I was doing? I replied," Wife is still healthy, you are still healthy, all the receivers I deliver your produce to are still healthy. Come to think of it only you and a driver of a cube van even had a close call."

Hello Hugh, I think I finally got my youngest kid to stop smoking! Although I cant take the credit! Yep, I have the pump apart also, other than a very slight groove warn into the driven pump shaft from an o-ring, everything seems to be OK. Its sunday morning and Im at work, but I did bring the whole hyd block with me to put it into the solvent tank. There has to be some fringe benifits to working sunday morning!

I'm doing the same thing on my SC. Where did you order the rebuild kit from????? My CIH dealer tells me that I can only order individual parts, that there isn't a kit available.

Big John, Thanks to all for your input! Complete rebuild kit came from Columbia Tractor in Claverack, NY. Phone 518-828-1781 and I spoke to Mike at the parts counter. Cost was $87 plus taxes and shipping which brought the bill total to $101. I left my e-mail address if you have any more questions. I have disassembled the block and am planning on putting the whole thing into the solvent tank. I will let you know how I make out.
