I have the pump out. The drive dog has to come off the pump drive shaft but the entire shaft just spins. It is threaded on to the shaft; right? How can I hold the shaft from spinning? Does the entire cover plate come off with the shaft, seal, & drive dog??

What a great time to buy a set of manuals. Apriori knowledge will only take you so far.

I tried putting a bar up the filler and the drain plug with no luck. The shaft still spins because I can't feel any gears. Anyone take one apart.

If memory serves my correctly you have to place a steel bar into the pump intake inside the liftall housing to lock the gears to get the input coupler off the pump shaft.

According to the I&T manual, after removing the front from the assembly you are supposed to insert a steel bar up the oil intake to hold the gears so it can be unscrewed.
