Howdy, folks.

I just found either an O-series or W-series Farmall on the way home from work tonight-- can't tell too much because of all the growth over it. I've always thought these were some of the nicest looking Farmalls, but for a guy in the South, what would it be good for? Where do these tractors shine and where do they stink?

Thanks,
Darren

The W-4 is a great tractor to rake with.

As mentioned, trailing implements only, the wheels are not adjustable and you can't cultivate with one. Used mainly in wheat/small grain country (plains states) but were also used in other areas as a larger tractor to do tillage work. They were not Farmalls, Farmall is a row crop or cultivating tractor that was also fully capable of doing tillage work, more of a general purpose tractor. The O or OS series were the orchard version of the W series. W, O, and OS were either McCormick or McCormick Deerings, depending on when they were made. Their successors had their names changed to International.

They look good, and can pull heavy loads. PTO work is nice with them as well - stationary PTO work that is, augers, grinders, etc.

They were designed mainly for pulling trailing implements such as plows, disks, etc...

They really stink doing light work like mowing and raking because they are hard to steer without power steering and they take a lot of room to turn around...
