BOY There's opinions ALL OVER the map! It depends on the ply rating of the tire in question. H's & most M's now have 4-ply tires, some may have 6-ply. 12-14 PSI is enough for a 4-ply rear, maybe 16 on a heavily loaded 6-ply, like an M with a mounted corn picker. Same with the fronts, a 4-ply 5.50 or 6.00 X 16 30-32 psi is enough, maybe 36 if a front end loader is mounted. A 6 ply can go to 42-45, and an 8-ply can probably handle 50 psi. Do a search on FIRESTONE/BRIDGESTONE and look under AG tires. Firestone has one of the most informative tire websites.

I was mostly going by what it said on the sidewall. Back in the days when the only air compressor was in town at the gas station, we used a hand pump -- meaning there had to be a pretty good bulge in the sidewall before the tires ever got air, then both my dad and I had to pump -- I doubt if we ever got more than 12 lbs in them.

12# is fine for a 4-ply. That's about all I run in My Super H. Under a real heavy load the sidewalls flex a little, like when pulling brush, but they wear nice that way. I sure would hate to pump up a 13.6 X 38 with a bicycle pump....Dad's compressor wasn't Big, but It sure was S-L-O-W.... but it never stopped Him or I from doing a LOT of tire work. One summer when I was about 14-15 I fixed so many tires if We got a flat on a hay rack or wagon I could bump the tire off, patch the tube and replace it and be on My way back to the field without Dad even missing Me.

KC,

Hmmmm, boy I don't know.

18 to 20lbs in the rear of an old H or M might look good setting on cement or running down the street, but put 'er out in the field and that, in my estimation is just far too much air.

My view,

Allan
