656 hydro pulls hard under load

I have an International 656 diesel that runs great. The hydraulics are strong and smooth. However, the only problem I seem to have is under medium to heavy loads the the hydro really starts sounding like it's killing itself. Or several times I've got stuck in between two muddy ruts and the tires barely even spin. I can put it on full throttle in the lowest gear and it will just pull it itself almost out of the rut and just stay there. The tranny isn't slipping at all though. Someone told me that maybe the relief valves are faulty and letting the pressure out too soon? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The first thing you need to check is make sure the clutch (or dump valve ) returns all the way to the top and it is not hitting the plate. If this is not the problem then you will need to check charge pessure and drive pressure and at this point you may want a dealer to do this.

Matt,

Has the tractor been worked on recently?

That is the symptom of the two forward and reverse pressure lines being reversed.

Sounds like the engine braking is going into effect when it shouldn't.

Just a thought,

Allan

It hasn't been worked on in a long time. Also, when I press one brake, it tries to move but can't turn at all.

Matt,

That sounds like a 'lack of pressure' problem to me.

Maybe the big bulls will come in here and give you a helping hand, 'cause you are now totally over my head on this one.

Allan
