Hi gang. Getting ready for haying and want to hang Delco single-wire alternators on the H and 400. Looks like enough room on the 400, not sure about the H. Just curious if I will be chasing down different belts, pulleys, ect....I figured if anyone knew, this board surely would. Thanks

I just converted a F-300 to alt. using one from a Dodge D-50 pickup. They use a Mitsubishi alt.(12volt-45Amp.). All I did was flip the old Gen. bkt. over and use the old belt. Had to space the alt. and the top bkt (belt tightener) out to line up and away we go. Did the same thing on F-400, only I used the Delco S-10.HTH

Grant----go over to the left side of the screen
look under "RESEARCH&INFO" try ARTICLES.....Look for article for converting from 6v to 12v by Bob Melville....he tells you step by step and gives a diagram for IHC tractors.....the H will be tight but you can make it work...I made up new mounting bracket for my M ...You will want to change the alt. pully size to 2" or smaller....you need to turm the alt. faster...yes deffernt belts will be needed..... ...

I just put an alt. on my super H. The best way to go is an alt from a 90's model toyota truck. It is a nippondenso unit that is a lot smaller than the delco and it has an internal regulator with the correct single groove pulley. I was able to use part of the original bracket. I picked one up on ebay and put new brushes in it for a total investment of 15.00. The original belt worked out to be the right size. I had a 10si delco alt available but it was to big to fit under the hood and still have room to tension the belt.
