Transmission Noise

I just bought a 300 not running. Got it running and found that it has some transmission noise.

It makes it in all of the gears. The TA slips when you pull it to the low side. The cutch disk for the TA looks like it has plenty of pad on it.

The noise doesn't change when you engage the TA. The noise increases with ground speed.

Any ideas what I've got going on? If I decide to have someone repair this, about what is the labor cost to break one of these things down?

I appreciate any help I could get on this.

David,

Are you talking about that whining noise? If so, this is probably just normal gear whine. They use straight-cut gears. Add 50 years of hard work and some of 'em really get to talking.

The T/A probably is slipping at the ramps but who knows, it could be a lot of things. I'd guess worst case would come in at about $1500 on that one if you were to hire it done.

My T/A repair came in at $2145, but that is because I am a little retarded and wouldn't let 'em scrap the complete tractor like they wanted. :>)

I understand that these get loud when they get old but this one is definately more than a whine.

Thanks for your imput. I'd probably be better off junking this one but I'm not that smart either.

David,

Someone advised me last week that I have to get and least 3 times the money into the tractor than what it is worth to really be a doin' this whole hobby right. :>)
