Got a neighbors 706 to fix, he needs it ASAP as he's got to get the first cut of hay in. Had a sticking/stuck hydralic valve, found some rust in the detent area causing that. Things were also real slow, like real slow. I figure the filter is dirty, ask him where it is and he dosen't even know where to put fluid in at!!!!

Anyway I find both the filter and the fill. Here's where I need help... I pull the cover off and the filter drops out, I look for the screen and see what I think is the end of it and give it a pull, wrong, it's about 3" long 1" pipe, straight cut on one end and angled at the other and must go right into the resivror! Got half the fluid changed without trying!!!

I got it shoved back in but don't know if it is in right.

Does the angled end go in or out and does it matter which way the it is turned?

Second question, I believe I have found the screen, it above the filter, is there a trick to getting it out? I pulled with a pair of pliers and tried to twist it gently but it won't budge! I don't want to damage it if I am missing something, but I'm starting to suspect that neglect has so much crud on it that I'm going to have to wreck it to get it out...

Third, when I pulled the first item, quite a bit of fluid came out and with it is what apears to be a pivot for an arm. It is steel, 3/8" in diameter, about 3/8" long and has something welded on to the end that is half broken off which makes me think it was a pivot for something. Any idea what it might be and if it's being gone is causing some of the problems????

Any help you guys can give me would be greatly apreciated and will get him back in the fields quicker!

Thanks in advance,
Lance

pipe goes with the angle end into the housing.
i would guess the piece you found is off the 3pt/fast hitch linkage,if it will only work with the draft level that is where it came from.
their are 4 1/4" bolts on the right side of the seat paltform, take them out and you can see the linkage.
if it fell off or broke i wish you luck as they can be a real pain.

Oh Boy do you ever need a book. The screen is on the end of the filter when you remove. One thing if the hyd valves havn't been used in a long time they were probably dry and got some rust in them from condensation. I remember at one time IH had a item called a "clean up filter" that you put in and it was to clean up the hytran. Also you might put a hose in the couplers and circulate the oil thru the valve and get it loosend up that way.

Thank you much for the screen location! All I saw when it came out was the bottom and saw the spring and I just figured it was a bypass if the filter clogged! Need a book is a no joke! Nothing like working on someone else stuff that's "newer" and having only experiance on A's and 300's! Well you sure saved me some head scratching and who knows what! Any idea which way that pipe goes in?
