Iwas changing the foot oil in my boat and for some strange reason walked back up toi the house with the quart container in my hand,it only being about half full, and I guess sometime during the night it got knocked over and yep, near half a quart of 90 wt gear oil all over her new back porch.I gotta get this up as its her sanctuary from me and my old iron!Im desperate!!!!! !!!

Hello 49 Cubber,

Sorry I did not get on this bbs yesterday.

I'm a cleaning contractor. We do many different types of projects including flatwork. Drive-thrus, dumpsters, etc.

Heat is the key. We run about 200 degrees, up to 3000 psi, 8 gpm. We use a surface cleaner that looks kind of like a push lawn mower. We of course also use a degreaser to go after the oil.

Take a old battery and dump some of the acid out of it on the spots. They will be clean as new but be careful it will also take off your SKIN!!!!

I think we've all overlooked the obvious! Just coat the rest of the floor with used oil. Then wipe it up and you won't be able to tell where the original stain was! Ask her how she likes the new "faux marble" finish you did for her.

Have used Carb cleaner and Brake cleaner, works great on any grease or oil, spray and wipe.

Try this, it works to a point. Get some plaster (dry powder stuff) and spread it around on the spot about 1/4" thick and then use a solvent like turpintine or paint thinner and rub the plaster into the concrete using the solvent, I did this on my new garage floor from my leaking farmall H and the oil stains now look bleached and discolored, hardly noticable.

I've used 'Simple Green' straight from the jug and it worked pretty well. I've also used petroleum based stuff (paint thinner, mineral spirits, hand cleaner, etc.) and all they have done is thin it so it spreads and makes a bigger stain. Guess I don't have the knack for using them since other people darn near swear by them. I was finally able to solve the problem after I put down a good layer of epoxy floor finish. No stains no slip no dust no cracks or chips and no sweat on the cleanup. Pricey, but worth it I think.

Try 'Greased Lightning'. It is a household cleaner found next to 409 and Fantastik in the store. Pour some of it on the spot straight strength and agitate it with a brush. Rinse and repeat. I usually use the dollar store brand. It is basically the same stuff.

Have done that myself on several occasions. A couple things I've found work pretty good:

Mix up a paste of powdered dishwasher detergent (Cascade, etc) and hot water - or use the liquid dishwasher stuff right from the jug. Spread it the area on and leave overnight. In the morning hose or pressure wash it off. If any stain remains treat the entire concrete surface with concrete etcher (from Home Depot or wherever) per instructions and rinse again.

For instant relief (but not for the faint of heart): Wet the affected area with gasoline and scrub it in with a stiff brush. Next spread fresh kitty litter over the wetted area to absorb the gas. Finally stand back and throw a match on the kitty litter. When the fire goes out, let it cool down then sweep up the kitty litter. The concrete underneath will be clean as a whistle. WARNING!! USE THIS METHOD AT YOUR OWN RISK - NOT NEAR THE HOUSE! (And NOT when the wife is around...)

I have had some luck using mineral spirits. Just pour some on the oil spot and scrub with a brush. Use the oil dry to absorb the mineral spirits & oil mixture. Use hot water and soap to finish it up with. Hope this helps.

Sprinkle some dry portland cement on it. Let it soak it up for a while.

Go to auto supply store or Wal Mart and get a bag of oil absorbant. This is granulated stuff sort of like kitty litter. Sprinkle a layer of that on the oil spot and leave for several days. Then sweep it up. Won't get it completely, but you'll be amazed how much that stuff will absorb. Sorry but don't have the fast solution.

I have had fair success by using oil absorbant and grinding it in with my foot, rather than waiting for it to work. That's before it's had a chance to soak in too much. Then it sort of blends in with all the other stains I have.
