This past week, my uncle tore down an old house on the family farm, and there was an old Servel Kerosene Refrigerator in it. It is old and has the rounded top. Is it worth anything? If it is, to who? I would hate to let it rot out in the open, but if it is just junk anyway, then why not? I would love for someone to get interested in it and restore it.

I read an article in the Wall Street Journal a couple of years back on how refridgerators such as those were highly sought after by people who for whatever reason desired to live in areas that were not accessible by the regular power grid or for who it would be too expensive to have the power lines extended to their property. As such they sought such refridegerators that did not require electricity even if they had generators. They were all the more valuable since they are no longer made. I don't know how you would advertise to such people. Perhaps you could get a hold of the Wall Street Journal and ask to have a reprint of that article. There was one particular person they mentioned who made it a point to deal with them and took considerable trouble to try and find them.

I've got a couple ancient propane fired Servel refrigerators that date back to the early 50's. Surprisingly they still work fine. Never seen a kero-fired one however.

Suggest trying to light it off and see whether it still cools. If it does I'd hang onto it!

Scotty,
I will take a few pics of it next time I am down that way. It may be in a few weeks. I can email them to you when I do, provided you can send your email address.
