Coolant drain plug stuck on Farmall Super A

Got to poking around on my new project today. I had planned on just draining the radiator. The plug does not have a hex nut as I expected but rather a single flange that looks like you could almost use your fingers to twist it out. Anyway, the thing is stuck in there pretty well. Any ideas on how to get it out without breaking it?

Thanks for all the info. As the engine hasn't been started in over eight years and the carb is all frozen up, I guess I'll need to apply some heat to it.

In this photo you can sort of see what I was tried to explain on the drain doo hicky. Sorry for all of the technical jargon.

I had the same thing on my Super C. When I did get it out all the anti freeze came out all over my freshly painted front rims. I didn't like that at all. I bought a new pipe and put a 90 angle on it faceing to the back of the tractor and put gas line shut off valve on the end of it so I can direct the direction of the flow and the speed.

Kevin: Another idea I find with these is try and start the plug out when tractor is well warmed up. The heat of the coolant will often make the plug turn easier.

I usually find that I need to use a pipe wrench and most often the cap and pipe come off of the water inlet pipe together in one piece. I then take it to the vice to get them seperated. Most often I also replace the short pipe to the cap.

GOOD LUCK

If its like most of them things you need to turn it back words to get it to open, if that doesn't do it try a little heat on it

It is all made up of right hand pipe threads and most are stuck, so turn counterclockwise.

Hugh was right on, warm up the engine first. Since it is steel pipe into cast iron, the joint at the tops will probably come loose with very few threads left on the pipe. Casting is likely OK
